Drawing a blank for the first official blog entry . .. . . . I'm excited to start, but really have no idea where to begin, so I think I will hold my breath until my head turns into a giant red balloon and bursts out of my mouth whilst puking twinkly plush hearts about my current favorite things . . . . . and these are just a few:
I LOVE . . . . . . . . Bioshock, yea the XBOX game, why? it is an underwater city and it illustrates the art deco of the 1940's, a style I've come to know since moving to downtown Los Angeles from London nearly a year ago. An inspiration for a indie film by Abe Dieckman called Trash & Progress which I costumed for and the style premises for the AERO DECO shoot featured in the Projects section of this site www.thesundaysociety.com.
Apart from Bioshock lately leaking into every conversation I have about 'orante-ly' well-done games, it is relatively old-news to most gamer geeks. However if one wishes to be part of such a world in the flesh I suggest attending The Cicada Club, in Downtown LA at the Oviatt building, its a no cover evening on the rule only of being fabulously drunk and vintage in a pleated frock to the sounds of a 20-piece orchestra. http://www.clubcicada.com/main.asp
Also on the menu for Art Deco-inspired treasures, may I suggest The Edison, also downtown its lovely and competely under street-level. Built out of an old Edison powering location, ( and the branded electrical sidewalk plates are still around downtown, yes, cuz I've seen them) this bar offers a full tasty menu, events Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday, and a pretty good cocktail list. Usually lined-up beyond its alley address onto 2nd street on Friday and Saturday eves, I've learnt a little trick; Dress to the likes of Garbo, have your friends do the same, strut to the front of the line with confidence and manners intact. This isn't Hollywood and its over lamed red carpet, its a chance to be lads and ladies of a time beloved but not forgotten, just the type of place for the society to lay its burdens down down down.

Now for the finale of three; all conceived from stone and brick from long ago, revived in a modern world the sister bars arose around the theatres of broadway. The Broadway Bar with a circular main bar and beside the Orpheum, ( an amazing complex we saw Goldfrapp perform at a couple weeks ago) www.broadwaybar.la . The Golden Gopher and bar two; a satirical line of windows facing a brick wall of the building beside, the best pint of frothy guiness in LA, and the oldest liquor license known to man that allows its patrons a chance to buy their sealed liqour to-go-go www.goldengopherbar.com . 'Lastly but not leastly', Seventh Grand, themed to the hunt; taxidermies, tartan carpeting, polo wall paper throughout and the staff are as smooth as the vodka. www.sevengrand.la
Now exercise that bit of info and enjoy. . . . for now.
