On a jet-lagged arrival to London for Fashion week to meet up with friends Aaron & Vivi from jewelry line Vice & Vanity, I took a little break to gander through the V&A. Located conveniently across the street from the Natural History Museum, I sat for minutes at a time starring at masterpieces by Raphael and nodding off in intervals until moving onto the British history theatre and waking to a anthology about the Crystal Palace/ Great Exhibition of the 1800's.
As I began to make my exit from the V&A I noticed a exhibit being constructed in the main foyer. A beautiful symphony of avant-garde hats curated by Stephan Jones. The Anthology included wonderful concepts by Philip Tracey and other not-so-well-known's of exquisite mastery, even a hat making studio in the centre I fought the urge to break into. I did however take in the fun of making hats in the Autumn previous when I found a great little hat supply store on Spring street Los Angeles, where you had the blow the dust off so many boxes to get to luscious feather selections.
V&A stands for: Victoria & Albert Museum, two royals responsible for bringing the world of design knowledge to Britain and establishing the first worlds expo from their opening of the infamous Crystal Palace/ Great Exhibition. Also a very good place to take a nap among historic design if you you happen to be jet-lagged.
