MUSIC REVIEW: HEARTBREAK - Lies

Heartbreaklies_2

The mid 80's are back via the 00's courtesy of London based synth-pop duo Heartbreak. With comparissons to the nu-romantic era and sounds of Depeche Mode, OMD, Pet Shop Boys and Giorgio Moroder, Heartbreak proudly hold their heads high while presenting their Techno and Disco tinged songs to the legions of kids for whom this sound is completely new. Argentenian singer Sebastian Muravchix and British/French keyboardist are one of the few new schoolers to bring a fresh approach to this classic sound without some of the "kitschy" approach that many other groups seem to take. They embrace the Disco sound but somehow throw in a style and sound that would wake the old Goth scensters from the dead. Heartbreak are here to be the breath of fresh air that dance music has lacked in the last couple of years. There are 10 tracks and 10 winners which makes it a home run at the Obtain clubhouse.

MUSIC REVIEW: THE TING TINGS - We Started Nothing

The_ting_tings_2 Possibly one of the best all around albums of 2008, newcommers the Ting Tings have shown us that pop, rock and dance can be combined to form one spectacular sound. This debut artist album is all about great British pop and the DIY ethic. The duo of Katie White on guitar and Jules De Martino on drums along with machine based loops provides for one of the freshest sounds of the summer. This is the absolute best mix of generes that will equally appeal to the indie rockers and the alternative dance scenes. "Great DJ", the lead track on the album, is every bit dance as it is rock. Watch for yourself and see and hear what the fuss is all about.

MUSIC REVIEW : BOOKA SHADE - The Sun & The Neon Light

Bookashadethesunandtheneonlight

How do you "one up your DJ-Kicks mix album which in electronic music circles was considered one of the best of 2007? In 2008 you release your third and by far best artist album, The Sun & The Neon Light. Booka Shade (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeire) have returned with a pop masterpiece from the frontline of technology based music. It is true that their insperation comes from the dance floors across the world but this album has so much more to offer in this polished album. Emotion can be found in both the instrumentals and vocal tracks throughout. The lead track "Outskirts" has a score like quality with its sweeping strings and dramatic emotion. NOT FINISHED!

MUSIC REVIEW : The Trentemøller Chronicles

Trentemollerthechronicles_2

One of the hottest underground producers of the momen is Anders Trentemøller, the Danish Electronic DJ & Producer. He has quickly risen from obscurity to become one who is setting the standard of electronic music production. His original works and remixes have caught the attention of music fans worldwide and have now been featured in a double CD set called The Trentemøller Chronicles. This retrospective features Trentemøller's original tracks on CD 1 while CD 2 features his remixes of other musician’s works. Both CDs feature new and rare material, much of it coming from vinyl or compilation only releases. This means unless you are a DJ, you will not easily find many of these tracks on your own. CD 1 is presented as a DJ mix while CD 2 features the remixes in an unmixed form. The mix CD is part mellow, dark and orchestral in nature while the other half shows Trentemøller's mastery of his machines for the more upbeat tracks.

The one anchor for the whole compilation is easily the track “Moan”. The version presented on this release features the vocal talents of Ane Trolle and is an dark and strangely upbeat pop track. Check out this clip on You Tube of “Moan” performed live at the P3 Guild in Denmark:

The unmixed CD features artists that are mostly unknown; Filur, Djuma Soundsystem,Blue Foundation and so on. It is not so important that they all seem to be unknown because the way the remixes turned out is all that is important. If you like electronic music than this should be a treat for you.
